nswccc selections (girls)
The 2018 NSW CCC Girls Basketball trials were held at Hills Basketball stadium. There were 30 girls registered to trial. 22 of those girls were present on the day. One student (Olivia Barber - Xavier College Albury) applied for an exemption due to a severe concussion and still wished to be considered for selection. The girls came from a variety of metropolitan and country areas including Wollongong, Newcastle, Maitland, Lismore and Sydney.
All participants were engaged during the sessions and gave their best effort. The girls were able to implement instructions quickly and this led to very efficient and effective sessions. Both Shelley, Clare and myself were pleased with the maturity shown from the girls throughout the day. They took the initiative to introduce themselves to people they didn’t know and this helped the drills run more smoothly.
We created our session plans to ensure that all participants were able to showcase their talents. There was a good mix of individual and group work for the girls to participate in. The session plan for the day was as follows:

After the second 8 minute game we made a cut to 14 players.
We then had 2 x 12 minute halves with the final 14 players. This gave us a chance to look at specific match up’s and positional play.
All girls participated well throughout the day and we believe it was a fair trial for all players. All girls had ample opportunity to prove themselves in both individual drills, shooting, offensive and defensive decision making drills.
