NSWCCC U/19 YEARS CRICKET - 2016/2017
NSWCCC SELECTIONS
The CCC trials were held at Raby Oval Sports Complex on 20th and 21st February for 44 boys who attempted to gain selection into the CCC team to play at the NSW Schoolboys Carnival Week. The trials consisted of one 50 over match and 2 T20 matches and all boys had ample opportunity to display their skills with the bat and ball. The standard was once again very high and selections became difficult.
NSW SCHOOLBOYS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Schoolboys Carnival was heavily affected by an unprecedented amount of rain over February and March, which also washed out most cricket across Sydney. Unfortunately, only one game could be played which was the T20 v Combined High Schools 2 on the Friday at The Kings School.
CCC bowled CHS2 out for 112 in 19 overs, which was a great team effort with 5 of the 6 bowlers contributing wickets. The pick of the bowlers were Louis Whitehouse (2/18 off 3) and Ryan Clark (3/15 off 4). Our run chase got off to a bad start with two run outs in the first four overs and from that point it was tough to get going as CHS2 applied strong pressure in the field. After the allotted overs, CCC finished up on 7/60 with Cameron Middleton (19*) and Lawson Eva (15) the two highest run scorers.
Cameron Middleton was the recipient of the Spirt of Cricket Award for CCC.
I would like thank all the parents of the boys for being very accommodating during what was a very tough week (financially and logistically) as well as Andrew Burke for managing the team.
Finally, 7 boys in the squad are Year 12 students who, at the end of this year will cease their association with Combined Catholic Colleges. I would like to thank them for their service to school cricket and wish them well in the future.

NSWCCC DOWNIE TROPHY FINAL
A great win by St Augustine's College First XI to claim its first Downie Trophy win in the history of the College.
Against favourites and current champions St Gregory’s College Campbelltown, the team produced an amazing effort to win by 15 runs.
Having earlier won the toss and batting first, St Augustine's posted a mediocre 141 runs (Ned Hole 30, Aiden Bariol 27 and Harry Brock 29) from 43 overs. St Gregory's opening bowler Ian Carlisle was nearly unplayable as he snared 5-23 off 9.2 overs.
In reply, the boys kept composed and continually applied the pressure to dismiss St Gregory’s in the 43rd over for 126. Bailey Dickinson scoring 45 to nearly take the game away from St Augustine's. Skipper Jack Edwards taking 4-16 and Harry Brock 2-20. Zac Youlten bowled superbly without luck, 7.5 overs 0-12 to really stem the runs. The final wicket was a run out from Jacob O’Sullivan and wicketkeeper Aiden Bariol to seal the win.
The St Augustine's College draw included wins against St Leo’s Wahroonga, St Pauls Manly, MacKillop College Warnervale, St Columba’s Springwood, St Francis Xavier Hamilton on Mondays Semi-final and then St Gregory’s in the Grand Final.
Matt Brewster was leading run scorer with 228 runs across the tournament and Lachlan Charles 12 wickets.

NSWCCC SELECTIONS
Following successful two day trials at St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown, the following players were selected to represent NSWCCC U15 at the All Schools Cricket Carnival to be held at Raby Oval on Monday 30th November and Tuesday 1st December 2015
Heavy rain leading up to the original trial dates of 10 and 11 November saw the closure of Mona Park, Auburn for the trials. St Gregory’s College at Campbelltown graciously hosted the trails for the two days in hot weather. Day 1 matches were played on synthetic wickets, whilst Day 2 saw the availability of the St Gregory’s main field turf wicket. All teams had the opportunity to play one match on the turf wicket which was very beneficial to the selectors.
Special thanks to:
-
St Gregory’s College Campbelltown for hosting the matches over the two days
-
Glen the Medic for his expert advice and injury management
-
NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association for providing the match officials for both days
-
Fellow selectors Steve Robinson, Luke Morrissey, Andrew Jamieson and Tim Kennedy for their professional input and management of the four teams in attendance.
-
Kym Skerritt for her assistance in arranging the last minute change of venue and other administrative matters.

After playing their first game back in October last year St Dominic’s College won the final of the catholic statewide Berg Shield Cricket competition last Wednesday in Sutherland. The competition commenced with a total of 63 teams from as far north as Murwillumbah, south to Pambula and as far west as Leeton.
The Berg Shield is a sudden death elimination junior cricket competition which commences with students eligible to play from year 9 and below before Christmas and continues in the new year if teams are not eliminated.
St Dominic’s won a total of six games to claim the Shield. They had wins against Xavier College Llandilio, Gilroy College Castle Hill, Patrician Brother’s College Blacktown, St Paul’s Catholic College Manly, Trinity Catholic College Lismore and St Patrick’s College Sutherland in the final. This is St Dominic’s College third Berg Shield title since its inception back in 1992/1993.
The squad was outstanding both on and off the field representing the College with great distinction. The team received generous praise from the Principal of St Patrick’s College during the presentation ceremony after the final for both their cricket ability and sportsmanship.
I would like to thank Mr Lawson and Mr Rawding for their roles in supporting myself and the team over the past 5 months and of course the boys for outstanding efforts. This team also managed to win the 9/10 MCS cricket competition this season.
The squad was Adrian Agius, Nicholas Thornton, Justin Felsch, Trent Weir (Captain), Zac Wilkinson, Mathew Sullivan, Bryce Wilson, Lovish Sethi, Harrison McMillan, Ryan Gibson, Zane Carroll, Oliver Cooling, Mansirat Wander and Liam Doddrell.

NSW ALL SCHOOLS
The NSWCCC U15 cricket team had a very successful carnival winning each of their three matches. The carnival was held at Mona Park in Auburn where the facilities both on and off the field were of a high standard. The standard of cricket displayed by the CCC team was even higher as they accounted for the CIS team as well as two CHS teams. There were a number of outstanding individual performances over the two days and as a result 10 of the 12 players were selected in a final squad of 26 to attend a trial for the NSW All Schools team on the 30th of March at a venue to be confirmed.
The most pleasing aspect of the two days however was the camaraderie and spirit that existed in the NSWCCC team. This was commented on by a number of officials present over the two days.
The team was coached expertly by James Scholtens and were clearly the outstanding side of the carnival.
The All Schools Carnival was played at George Parry and Dave Tribolet Ovals in Auburn.

The team played very well over the two days of cricket, particularly on Day 1 with soft, damp wickets following some heavy storms in Sydney the previous afternoon.
The selectors from other Associations commented regularly on the friendly team atmosphere that the group displayed over the two days and all Umpires who officiated the match also passed on their positive feedback on the way the boys played the game out in the middle which is a credit to the team and also three captains to lead the three matches (Thomas SOWDEN – match 1, Bailey DICKINSON – match 2 and Jack EDWARDS – match 3).
Special thanks to Mr Chris Paterson for scoring all the matches very efficiently.
Thanks also to Jack Ritchie who acted as NSWCCC Team Manager who displayed sound knowledge of the boys’ abilities and was able to offer some very valuable feedback at the selection table. Jack’s professionalism over the two days was of the highest level and I would welcome his involvement next year and beyond.
Following two successful days of cricket at Auburn (George Parry Oval / Dave Tribolet Oval) the following two squads of 13 players have been selected to attend the Final selection trial match on Monday 30th March, 2015 (venue TBC).

NSWCCC 19 YEARS SELECTIONS
To select the CCC team 4 teams are chosen to pick from. One Southern country team, one Northern country team and 2 Sydney
Metro teams.
The Sydney teams were broken into Syd Metro West and Sydney Metro Central and structured into 2 equally balanced teams.
This year all 4 teams were picked on paper and net trials were not used.
During the carnival players were placed in order with consideration taken from past form, highest level played and what preference they
indicated on their application. TWO 50 over matches were played on both Monday and Tuesday.
Games were played side by side so selectors could view both games at all times.
There were 4 selectors. One from country North ( Nathan Koen), Two from Sydney Metro ( Justin Smith and Anton Harris) and one from South ( Dean Merola who also was the CCC coach).
There were also TWO independent selectors from Cricket NSW to keep it fair and consistent
The team was chosen with the following considerations taken into Account:
What the players background and current form was like ( Stats were looked at online for anyone we were considering) Performance during
the carnival on BOTH days The performance during the carnival and not just the runs or wickets taken.
The best balance we could achieve for the CCC team with talent available whether the majority of selectors including the Independent
selectors agreed on the selection. Players who indicated certain position and responsibilities were directly compared against each other ( Opening bats and Opening bowlers etc) Shadows were chosen to cover all positions.
Players who were not able to attend the carnival due to whatever reason were not considered.
The team selected will compete at the Lord Taverners All Schools carnival in Sydney from March 11-14.
NSW SCHOOLBOYS CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 10 to 14 Western Sydney. 2014
With a very strong side all the boys given the customary nickname we were ready to begin the week and were hoping for a good start.
Unfortunately this didn’t go to plan losing our first to games. For some reason the Catholic boys are well renown for being slow starters but all the boys remained very positive.
On the wed the cricket Gods decided to shine on us and with some good performances with both bat and ball we had our first win.
Brent Atherton starring with an unbeaten 93 to get us home comfortably.
With momentum and some confidence under our belt we went on to win the next game against GPS and were set up for a showdown against the always solid CHS1 team.
Quotient was always going to be tight with results all very close. So we needed a good win in the 20/20 match to have any chance.
With a great start and a fine bowling performance we dismissed CHS1 for only 84 and chased it down for the loss of only 3 wickets. This was a fine effort and improved our quotient dramatically.
With 4 teams finishing on 3 wins the winners were decided on quotient and after a great win against CHS1 we won by 0.03.
A great effort and a true display of character from a talented group of cricketers.
The way the performed and conducted themselves during the week was a credit to themselves and their families.
It’s the first time CCC have won the tournament in 17 years, so a great effort and something to be very proud of for all involved.
Congratulations to the boys who were picked in the All Schools team and we wish all the boys the best with their cricket in the future.
